Call for Panels and Bursaries

 

UniIowa_CalNonfictioNow is one of the most significant gatherings of writers, teachers and readers of nonfiction from around the world. Three full days of panels, screenings and events will centre on the practice, thinking, communication and writing of nonfiction in all its forms to be hosted by RMIT University in November 2012. The Bedell NonfictioNow Conference seeks panels that showcase the diversity of the genre. Panels should have a minimum of three panellists, including the moderator. Panels can explore any aspect of nonfiction ranging from the celebration, discussion or tribute to the work of a particular essayist, or a discussion an aspect of memoir, ethics, the lyric essay, literary journalism, travel writing, food writing or regional writing. Panels that explore nonfiction at or beyond the margins of the literary, such as film, radio and online forms, are also welcome. In addition, a small number of proposed readings will be accepted for the conference.

The panellist conference fee is $200.

Bursaries: With the assistance of the Copyright Agency Limited, NonfictioNow 2012 will be issuing a limited number of bursaries in order to enable independent Australian writers and journalists to participate in the NonfictioNow 2012 conference in Melbourne. Bursaries will be considered for all writers who apply, however those who are successful as panellists will be prioritised. In order to be eligible for the bursary you must write independently, and not work on an ongoing basis for a specific academic institution. In order to apply for the bursary simply submit your panel proposal, and then fill in the form below with your full details. We'll be in touch in April in order to notify successful applicants.

The bursary will cover conference registration fees for Melbourne writers, and for country and interstate applicants will cover registration fees plus $600 towards travel costs.

Literary Adelaide

LitAdelaide_Graphic1Literary Adelaide is a one-day conference that will examine all aspects of Adelaide as a literary city past and present. Presented by the University of Adelaide and the Association for the Study of Australian Literature. The conference is on Friday 10 February, 2012 and will be held at the University of Adelaide. The keynote speaker is Kerryn Goldsworthy, author of Adelaide. Organisers are currently inviting 200 word abstracts for 20 minute papers on topics such as: literary representations of Adelaide; writers and readers in Adelaide; literary visitors; Writers' Week; the Jindyworobaks; Ern Malley; Friendly Street Poets; literary studies in Adelaide; libraries and booksellers; reading groups; Creative Writing courses; and anything else that could be connected to the theme of literary Adelaide. Submissions due: 18 November, 2011. Abstracts and enquiries should be directed to Dr Phil Butterss: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Aussiecon

Aussiecon4Aussiecon Four, the 68th World Science Fiction Convention (€œWorldcon€), placed Australia at the centre of the science fiction and fantasy world. The convention was held 2-6 September 2010 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Guests of Honour included award-winning author Kim Stanley Robinson, award-winning Melbourne artist Shaun Tan, and dedicated fan Robin Johnson. The Worldcon annual convention brings together people, both professionals and fans, from all over the world who have an interest in the science fiction and fantasy genres. Programming includes panel discussions, lectures, science demonstrations, films, readings and autographings.
